Each family must complete and return a
Dive Team Registration Form
to register for the 2007 season. Please note that this year, these
forms are only available for download from this site and are not
distributed with the pool newsletter. Please click on the

Summer Diving is a fun learning experience
for both competitive divers and those who are just looking to have fun.
Manor Woods Dive Team welcomes children of all ages and skill levels; no
previous diving experience is required.
The team welcomes individuals with no prior experience as well as experienced divers. Beginning divers learn the basic front and back jumps and dives; returning and experienced divers may learn more complicated somersault, reverse, inward, and twisting dives. Dive Team Goal The goal of the Manor Woods Dive Team is to teach safe diving and promote good sportsmanship in a supervised and supportive environment. The team welcomes individuals with no prior experience as well as experienced divers. Beginning divers learn the basic front and back jumps and dives; returning and experienced divers may learn more complicated somersault, reverse, inward, and twisting dives. Dive Team Eligibility Anyone up to age 18 can join the dive team. No previous experience is necessary. Our experienced coaches will teach you everything you need to know about safe diving. All divers must be registered and insured (by payment of registration fees) before divers can participate in dive practices. Registration Divers can pre-register by mailing the registration form to Jude Lozupone or bring it to the pool front desk. Upon registration, all families will receive a Montgomery Count Dive League handbook. This book has league rules, the complete schedule, and directions to every pool. Please keep this book handy as it is a good resource. Practice times and all other necessary communications from the team rep and coaches will be posted on the pool bulletin board and web site. Also, the Montgomery Count Dive League web-site is an additional source for information regarding league news. Dive Team Representatives The Manor Woods Dive Team is managed by the Dive Team Representatives. The team reps maintain the team roster, manage all arrangements for dive meets, hire and supervise coaches, and represent the team at meetings of the MW Pool Board and the MCDL. Also, is the liaison with the swim team committee to plan social events and end-of-season activities for the dive and swim teams. Practices begin May 29. Practices until June 16 are Monday
through Friday:
3:45 - 4:45 = 10 & Unders 4:45 - 6:00 = 11 & ups If you have a conflict, just speak to Frank. June 18, we will try a new practice schedule which is Monday through Friday
Practice is also held evenings, Monday through Friday (except Wednesdays of Home swim meets) from:
6:30 PM to 7:15 for 12 & Unders 7:00pm to 8:00 PM for 13 & Up
The evening practice is for those unable to make morning practice due to work or day camp. Swim Suit Sales A team suit is selected by a committee of the Manor Woods Swim/Dive Team. Manor Woods swim and dive teams will have a new suit this year, the blue "Broken ice" suit manufactured by Speedo. Boys can choose between the Jammer style (shorts) or the regular Brief style. It is not necessary to buy the suit to participate in swim and dive team meets or practices. Linda Noll (301-949-1756) will have suits available the first week of practice. Caps and other gear will also be available. Parent Participation And Support In addition to meet volunteers, there are many other ways in which parental assistance will be needed during the season. Most of our divers also participate on swim team. If your child does both, please consider how you can contribute your volunteer time to both teams. We ask that each family participate in some capacity, so please consider how you can volunteer to help make this season a success. Eileen Dorsey will be coordinating volunteer activities. When you complete the registration form for your child, please indicate how you plan on assisting the dive team. If you have any questions on a specific duty, please call Eileen. She will be recruiting parents for the following:
Spirit Activities Fun group activities are scheduled on Friday afternoons for members of the swim and dive teams. Please consult the bulletin board for exact times and information on the activity of the week. Sometimes it is necessary to bring supplies to these events, so make sure you check the bulletin board ahead of time. Trophies Individual trophies are awarded for first, second and third places within each age group category. The categories are:
All other places will receive participant awards. Points for trophies are determined by the placement of divers in dual dive meets: a first place finish earns the diver 5 points toward a dive trophy; second place 3 points and third place 1 point. In addition to these trophies, the team presents high point trophies to the one boy and girl with the overall highest point accumulations and a Coaches Award to the diver who was exemplary in attitude and performance. |
