The Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) is divided into fifteen divisions (A-O) with the fastest teams in Division A. Assignment to a division is based on a team’s performance during the previous year. This year, the Manor Woods Swim Team is assigned to compete in Division J of the MCSL. The division is comprised of Manor Woods, Carderock Springs, Ashton, Waters Landing and North Chevy Chase. Swimmers may swim no more than four individual events (three different strokes and Individual Medley) per week. A swim week begins with an “A” meet followed by a “B” meet. A stroke may not be repeated in the same swim week. However, if an 'A' Meet swimmer misses the previous 'A' meet, that swimmer can swim his or her 'A' Meet events in the 'B' Meet as exhibition, provided that there is an open lane in an existing heat. If a swimmer swims three individual (non-IM) events, he or she can swim the fourth individual stroke as exhibition. These rules do not apply to relay events. “A” Meet Each week, the fastest three swimmers in each individual event from each age group and each gender (fastest six in the 12 and under age groups) will represent Manor Woods in the “A” meets. “Fastest” is determined as the swimmers with the lowest times in each event. “A” meets are held on Saturday mornings. There will be five dual meets per swim season (dual meaning two teams swim against each other.) A dual meet is comprised of forty individual events, four relay events, and six individual medley events. Ribbons for individual events are awarded for 1st through 5th places. Ribbons for Medley Relay events are awarded to 1st place. Ribbons for the Graduated Relay events are awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, places. These ribbons are usually presented to the swimmers with pizza at the pool following home meets and at a fast-food restaurant following away meets. Team points are awarded as follows:
Relay Carnival Each MCSL Division has one relay carnival per swim season. The relay carnival is comprised of twenty relay events. All teams in the division compete. The relay carnival contributes points toward the calculation of the Division standings and helps determine participants in the MCSL Relay All-Stars Meet. Medals are awarded for 1st place and ribbons for 2nd and 3rd places. Team points are awarded as follows:
MCSL Coaches Invitational Long Course Meet The fastest eight swimmers from each age group (with two alternates) in the league are invited to participate in each event. Times are based on the first three dual meets. Swimmers may not be entered in or compete in more than two events. Events are the same as non-relay events in dual meets with distances doubled. Divisional Championship Meet There is one divisional championship meet following all of the dual meets. A divisional championship meet is comprised of two heats per event following the same order of events used for dual meets. All six teams from the division compete at the same time. Each team provides two swimmers per event. The two swimmers from each age group with the fastest times in each event will represent the Manor Woods Swim Team in the meet. In individual events, medals are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, and ribbons will be awarded for 4th-6th places. In relay events, medals will be awarded for 1st place and ribbons for 2nd and 3rd places.
All-Star Meets The Individual All-Star Meet is comprised of individual and individual medley events with the fastest sixteen swimmers per event selected from all league divisions. In the Relay All-Star Meet, plaques are awarded for 1st place, medals for 2nd and 3rd places, and ribbons for 4th through 8th places. For the Individual All-Star Meet, plaques are awarded to the first three places, medals for 4th, 5th, and 6th, and ribbons for 7th through 16th places. “B” Meet “B” meets are designed to provide competition opportunities for all those swimmers who do not have fast enough times to compete in the “A” meets. “B” meet Swimmers are very important to our team, and we work very hard to make these meets fun and exciting. “B” meets are not bound by the rules and regulations of the MCSL, but usually follow them very closely. The teams we will be competing against this year in B meets are: Connecticut BelAir, King Farm, Rockville, Tanterra, and Wheaton Woods. Dual Meets There will be five dual meets this season. A dual meet is comprised of the same events as in an “A” meet: forty individual events, four relay events, and six individual medley events. Ribbons for individual events are awarded for 1st through 6th places. Ribbons for Relay events are awarded to 1st and 2nd places. These ribbons will be presented to the swimmers during Thursday morning’s practice following each “B” Meet along with donuts. These meets are not officially scored for MCSL purposes. Relay Carnival There is one “B” Relay Carnival per swim season. The relay carnival is comprised of twenty relay events. All six teams compete. Swimmers who do not participate in the “A” Relay Carnival are eligible to participate in the “B” Relay Carnival. Ribbons for relay events are awarded for 1st through 6th places. Points are awarded as follows:
Individual Trophies Trophies will be awarded to the Manor Woods team members in each age group for 1st through 3rd places. Points will be awarded for participation in “A” meets for a season total. Swimmers will be monitored to ensure that rules of participation are followed. All other places receive participation awards. Trophies and special awards are presented at the Manor Woods Swim/Dive Team Annual Banquet. To receive a trophy, a swimmer must participate in at least one dual meet. One boy and one girl will each receive a High Point Trophy. Additional awards are given at the discretion of the coaches. These may include such categories as Most Improved Swimmer and Coach's Award. Points are awarded for events in dual meets as follows:
